| | | Fujifilm FinePix F31fd | | Posted Thursday, January 25, 2007 12:25:54 PM by Blog57 Team | | Back in September I reviewed the Fujifilm FinePix F30, and gave it high marks particularly for its market-leading low light and high ISO capabilities, which at the time were unmatched by any other camera on the market. It seems I wasnt alone in my admiration of the F30, because it went on to win the TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) award for best compact digital camera of 2006, and positive reviews from other photography magazines and websites. It has proved to be an exceptionally popular model. Naturally Fujifilm was keen to capitalise on this success, so in November it launched the FinePix F31fd, which is based on the F30 but features the addition of the ultra-fast hardware-based Face Detection technology first seen in the FinePix F6500fd, reviewed here in October.... | |

| | | Snap up these great cameras | | Posted Monday, November 13, 2006 10:48:50 PM by Blog57 Team | | Snap up these great cameras To find which one's right for you, consider going to specialty store Rod Turnham If you are in the market for a new digital camera this holiday season, your chances of finding the perfect camera have never been better. The wide variety of models available makes it more important than ever to think carefully about when, where and how you will use your camera. We recommend you shop at one of the local stores specializing in photography. The advantage the camera stores have in expertise, enabling them to precisely fit a camera to its owner and intended uses, far outweighs the few extra dollars they may (or may not) charge. A cheap camera that you don't like and don't use is, in the end, much more expensive than a more costly camera you enjoy using frequently.... | |

| | | Asian Stocks: Hong Kong's Hang Seng Rises to Record, HSBC Gains | | Posted Friday, November 03, 2006 2:51:39 AM by Blog57 Team | | Nov. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index closed at a record for the second straight day, posting the biggest gain in Asia, on speculation a slowdown in U.S. manufacturing will keep global interest rates from rising. HSBC Holdings Plc and Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd. led an advance by banks and developers. ``With news the U.S. economy is slowing, most people think that interest rates have peaked,'' said Mona Chung, who helps manage $800 million at Daiwa Asset Management Ltd. in Hong Kong. Lower rates ``will help cut costs for developers' projects that are coming on the market or going into construction soon.'' Benchmarks in India and Indonesia also climbed to all-time highs. Canon Inc. and Nikon Corp. led declines by Japanese exporters on concern demand for their goods may fall in the world's biggest economy.... | |

| | | Cuban boy denied prize by Nikon | | Posted Monday, October 30, 2006 6:50:11 AM by Blog57 Team | | Nikon Corp. has invoked a backlash in Cuba by refusing to send a 12-year-old Cuban boy the digital camera he won as a prize in an international painting contest, citing economic sanctions imposed on Cuba by the United States. Nikon, as a cohost of the contest, presented digital cameras to all the other children who won prizes at the U.N. Environment Program's International Children's Painting Competition ceremony held in Algeria in June. But the Tokyo-based company skipped Raysel Sosa from Cuba, because the camera contained U.S.-made parts that are prohibited from being exported to Cuba by the U.S. government, and gave him a painting set instead. The incident attracted attention in the Cuban media, including a paper published by the youth cadre of the Cuban Communist Party, saying that Nikon has humiliated the boy.... | |

| | | Nikon earnings beat forecasts | | Posted Thursday, October 26, 2006 6:47:50 PM by Blog57 Team | | Japan's Nikon Corporation said today that it earned over 50% more than it expected in the six months to September on strong sales of digital cameras and precision equipment and a weak yen. Nikon, which like its rivals is increasingly focusing on high-end digital cameras, lifted its full-year forecast but said uncertainties prevented it from predicting stronger profits in the second half. Nikon estimated net profit of 23 billion yen ($193m) in the first half to September 30, more than 53% higher than its earlier forecast of 15 billion. The net profit was nearly two and a half times the 9.3 billion yen the company reported in the comparable period last year, Nikon said in its latest forecast. Advertisement .... | |

Third quarter merchandise revenue grew to $19.9 million in 2006, compared to $15.1 million during the same three-month period of 2005. Ritz Interactive President & CEO Fred H. Lerner credits the sales increase primarily to strong consumer demand for new, state-of-the-art digital single lens reflex camera models from Nikon, Canon and others offered at the company's photo-specialty websites. "We attribute much of our recent growth to our loyal customers upgrading their entry-level digital cameras with the latest digital technologies," noted Lerner.... | |
