Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks may rise on speculation Toyota Motor Corp. will report a record second- quarter profit today and after U.S. indexes had their biggest gain in a month. ``Toyota is one of the primary emblems of Japanese industry and its earnings will probably be very bullish,'' said Kenichi Azuma, a strategist at Cosmo Securities Co. in Tokyo. ``The market should rebound today based on what's happened in the U.S.'' Oil-related companies including Mitsubishi Corp. and Inpex Holdings Inc. may climb after the price of crude closed above $60 a barrel for the first time since Oct. 27. Nikkei 225 Stock Average futures expiring in December last traded in Chicago at 16,575, up from 16,380 in Osaka and 16,420 in Singapore. The Bank of New York Japan ADR Index, which tracks the nation's American depositary receipts, advanced 1.1 percent....

A superzoom digital camera is one in which the focal length is around 4x to 12x. The focal length specification is the only true defining factor for what makes up the superzoom group of cameras. Superzooms are frequently found in prosumer style cameras, those cameras that fall somewhere in between what a professional and what a consumer would use for photography. These often mimic SLR camera bodies, but have fixed lens (whereas SLRs have removable lenses.) With the increasing of producing good technology on a smaller and smaller scale, some superzooms can be housed in compact body styles. Kodak Easy Share Z710 Of all the Kodak Easy Share Z models, the new Z710 is the most ideal camera for a superzoom in the Z lineup. The Z710 features 10x optical zoom and 5x optical zoom, a total of 50x zoom factor for around $299.95....

Profit at Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. for the July-September quarter more than doubled from what it was a year ago on solid sales of flat-panel TVs, digital cameras and air conditioners. Group net profit for the fiscal second quarter at the Japanese manufacturer known globally for its Panasonic brand products soared to 79.3 billion yen ($670 million) from 31 billion yen, the Osaka-based company said Friday. Quarterly sales edged up 2 percent to 2.25 trillion yen ($19 billion) from 2.21 trillion yen, it said in a statement. Matsushita was able to offset the damage from global price competition and rising raw material costs with cost reduction efforts and a strategy of focusing on key profit-generating products that can command leading market share. Matsushita dominates in plasma display flat-panel TVs, where it faces little competition....

AT&T Inc. is introducing a home monitoring service that includes live video surveillance on a computer or cell phone, as well as lighting controls and detection sensors for motion, temperature changes and flooding. The service being launched Thursday, priced at $9.95 per month, is compatible with any broadband Internet service. The cellular feature is limited to mobile phones from Cingular Wireless, a majority-owned subsidiary of AT&T, and requires the customer to subscribe to a wireless Internet package costing $10 to $20 a month, on top of voice plan fees. A customer also needs to buy a $199 equipment package consisting of a tilt-and-pan video camera, a motion sensor for a door or window, a central router to connect those systems to the Internet, and two power-outlet modules that transmit the video between the camera and the router using the home's electrical wiring....

Japan Stocks May Slip on Yen, Evidence of Slowing U.S. Economy
Posted Monday, October 23, 2006 2:48:47 PM by Blog57 Team
Oct. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks may drop after the yen strengthened against the dollar, and a bigger-than-expected drop in U.S. industrial production fueled concern that growth is slowing in the world's biggest economy. Exporters including Toyota Motor Corp. may pace losses. Declines may be limited after earnings at Intel Corp. and International Business Machines Corp. exceeded some analysts' estimates, boosting confidence that profits will continue to grow. ``The yen has now reached the 118 level against the dollar and there should be some initial selling as a result,'' said Hiroichi Nishi, an equities manager at Nikko Cordial Securities Inc. in Tokyo. ``However, there will be a buying push as a result of Intel's firm earnings report.'' Nikkei futures expiring in December last traded in Chicago at 16,565, down from 16,620 in Osaka and 16,625 in Singapore at the close yesterday....
